effect of different agricultural management practices on irrigation efficiency, water use efficiency and greenand blue water footprint

La ZHUO, Arjen Y. HOEKSTRA

Frontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering 2017, Volume 4, Issue 2,   Pages 185-194 doi: 10.15302/J-FASE-2017149

Abstract: different water efficiency indicators: irrigation efficiency (IE), crop water use efficiency (WUE), and greenand blue water footprint (WF).Results show that deficit irrigation most effectively improved blue water use, by increasing IE (by 5%) and reducing blue WF (by 38%), however with an average 9% yield reduction. In particular, WUE can be improved by more irrigation at the cost of the blue WF.

Effects of rape straw and red mud on extractability and bioavailability of cadmium in a calcareous soil

Junxing YANG,Liqun WANG,Jumei LI,Dongpu WEI,Shibao CHEN,Qingjun GUO,Yibing MA

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2015, Volume 9, Issue 3,   Pages 419-428 doi: 10.1007/s11783-014-0674-9

Abstract: In this study, different soil amendments, including red mud, a by-product of the alumina industry, andacid-treated, nano-treated by nano-particle milling, nano and acid-treated red muds, zeolite, corn strawAlso, red mud generally decreased the extractability and bioavailability of Cd added to calcareous soilsFurthermore, the efficiency of red mud could be increased by the treatment of nano-particle milling dueto the increase in specific surface area of red mud.
